The Madisonville Tennis team concluded its fall season on Thursday with a loss to Lampasas in the UIL Area Tournament.
The Mustangs qualified for this round on Tuesday when they edged out Gatesville 10-9 in their bi-district match.
“It never feels good after a loss to end your season,” said Madisonville head tennis coach Catherine Sedlacek. “We’re still pleased by the fact that this is a stellar program and now it’s time to take a short break before we start work for the spring season. The beauty of year-round tennis is that we can actually play year-round and these kids are totally dedicated.”
Sedlacek stressed that the team couldn’t have accomplished anything without all of her players, especially in a close Bi-District battle with Gatesville on Tuesday.
Ashlyn Hahn scored the match point for the Mustangs in her singles win in the very last match.
In the Area match loss, Daniel Saldana and Evan Guderian split a doubles set with Lampasas and only ultimately loss through a tiebreaker.
“It’s really hard for us to single out any individual players,” said Sedlacek. “They’ve all worked so hard and I can’t wait to see how we look in the spring season.”
The Mustangs finished the fall season with a district record of 4-2, with both losses coming against Palestine. They finished in second place in their district during the regular season.
