All the Madisonville girls’ basketball team has done the last two months is win, and that winning streak continued Tuesday on the road as the Lady Mustangs defeated Fairfield, 53-43.
Tra’Dayja Smith led the team with 25 points and four steals. Lexi Leveston had seven points and six rebounds, Tyana Brown had six points and four rebounds, and Tylesia Roundtree and Shakayla Burns had five points each.
The Lady Mustangs continued their dominance Friday night at home defeating Palestine, 45-35.
Madisonville led 19-16 at halftime, and outscored Palestine 14-8 in the third. The Wildcats clawed their way back into the game cutting the deficit to seven with less than four minutes to go in regulation. Shakayla Burns broke the Wildcats late game run with an offensive rebound, put back and foul, the three-point play extended Madisonville’s seven-point lead to 10 as the Mustangs won their 23rd game of the season; remaining undefeated in district play.
Burns led all scorers with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Smith had 14 points and four assists and Leveston had 12 points and grabbed nine boards in the win.
Madisonville (23-3) will return to the hardwood Friday on the road in Athens.
