Thomas Willard Baylor was born on Sept. 13, 1921, in Smithville to Thomas Jefferson and Gladys (Copeland) Baylor. He grew up in Houston and entered the U.S. Marine Corps in August 1942. He served during World War II and was discharged in 1946 as a corporal. During this time, he married his wife, Dorothy Ruth Glass, on Dec. 26, 1943. They were married for 71 years. After his military service, Thomas became a master electrician in Houston. In 1982, he retired from Manning Electric, and in 1992, Thomas and Dorothy moved to Madisonville to be closer to their family.

Thomas’ hobby was his work. When he retired, he continued to stay busy around his home. He always found something to fix or build, and was a very organized man, having every tool and gadget in its place in his workshop. Thomas was also a collector and never threw anything away. He passed away on April 2, 2016, in Madisonville. Thomas was preceded in death by both of his parents; a sister, Winnie Lee Divoti; and a grandson, Reese Baylor.

Surviving family members include wife, Dorothy Ruth Baylor of Madisonville; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Curtistene Baylor of Madisonville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roland and Diane Baylor of Alpine and Robert and Marjory Baylor of Chico, Calif.; grandsons, Justin and Bryce Siemens and Jace Gibbs; and granddaughters, Becky (Jon) Siemens and Lori (Brent) Gibbs.
