Madisonville’s varsity powerlifting team placed first last week during the Mustang Powerlifting Invitational.
“I thought the guys started off a little green, especially since there are 10 new faces on this year’s roster,” said Head Coach Lu Olvera. “However, after a few rounds of lifting the boys settled down and got into a good rhythm.”
Bryce Roundtree was placed first, lifting 495 pounds total in the 114-pound weight class. Desmond Wall placed first lifting 770 pounds in the 123-pound weight class, while Efran Garza placed second with 840 pounds in the 165 class.
Also placing first was Rafeal Franco lifting 995 pounds in the 220-pound weight class, Brad Roundtree lifting 925 pounds in the 275 class and Joey Mclver lifting 1,090 pounds in the super heavy weight division.
“The guys finished strong,” said Olvera. “I’m very proud of them. And a special thanks to our coaching staff, teachers, maintenance department, administrators, cheerleaders, athletes and Mrs. Walker for all their support during the meet.”
The Mustangs return to action Saturday on the road in Bryan.
