Wayne Rudy Mikeska, 75, passed away Saturday, Oct. 21, 2017, in Houston. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26, at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville, with the burial to follow at the Madisonville City Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at Day Funeral Home Chapel.
Wayne was born on Aug. 6, 1942, in Shiner, to Rudy and Sidonia (Deharde) Mikeska. He was a resident of Madisonville for 30 years before moving to Galveston, Port Lavaca, and finally settling in Point Blank with his wife, Jan, and their two dogs. Wayne had an extensive career in the offshore drilling industry, which included many years working in Nigeria and Egypt. He was recognized by the industry as being one of the first pioneers of deep water offshore drilling and eventually retired from Diamond Offshore.
Wayne loved the outdoors, golfing, motorcycle riding and animals. He shared the love of animals with his family and it was not unusual to find an array of all types of animals in and around their home. Wayne was both courageous and overly generous and he provided help and assistance to those in need. He will be greatly missed and remembered by his family and friends as the most noble of men.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Jan (Moreland) Mikeska; son, Tyler Mikeska and wife, Ellie; daughter, Paige (Mikeska) Wimsatt and husband, Michael; son, Brendan Mikeska; daughter, Melanie Mikeska; brothers, Lawrence Mikeska and Sherwood Mikeska; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Markay (McKenzie) Mikeska; and a stepson, Bob Combs.
