In this busy life we are all too often busy running from one function to another. We chase kids to baseball games, football games, band concerts, fair shows and many other activities. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with these things, we must be very careful not to get so busy with them that we forget about God. We can’t allow ourselves to place God on the back burner only to take Him off when we go to church or when we need Him to help us through something. He not only wants to be first in our lives – He deserves it.
Romans 12:1-2 says, “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
News flash! God used people in the Bible to do His work and He is still using them today. The above scripture tells us to offer our bodies as living and holy sacrifices that are acceptable to God. In order to offer your body as a living sacrifice you must be using it to honor God in every aspect of your life.
There are many ways your body can be used to serve God. Many of those opportunities exist right in your local church. Those include, but are not limited to, teaching, nursery work, lawn care, secretarial duties, multi-media preparation and production, bus and van driving, mission trips, summer camps, vacation Bible schools, kitchen ministry, singing, playing music and many more. These are but a few ways you can get involved in Kingdom-building work.
The question that I have for you today is this; “What have you done for Jesus lately?”
Stop for just a second and think back over the last month or even the last week; have you done anything that qualifies as doing something for Jesus? Oh and by the way, sitting in a church service on Sunday morning is not a good enough answer. While attending church is very important, and God definitely wants you to be there, you attend church to worship, and be fed the Word of God. This is what gives you the fuel it will take to offer your body.
If you can’t answer “yes” to that question, it’s time to evaluate your schedule and figure out what you need to get rid of. There is nothing more important than serving the God that created you and paid the ultimate price for you.
Thankfully, Jesus didn’t tell His father He was too busy to sacrifice himself for us.
It’s time to get in the game, brothers and sisters. Find some area in your church and even in your local community to serve the Lord. When you offer your body up to serve Him, He will pour out blessings upon you that you can’t even imagine.
God bless and have a great week in the Lord.
