Willon Rucker

Willon Rucker, 89, of New Waverly (formerly from the Greer Community in Madison County) passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 17, in The Woodlands. Visitation was held Friday January 20th from 9 to 11 a.m. at The North Madison Church of Christ in Madisonville with the funeral services to follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Will Odom will officiate. Willon was born on March 2, 1927, to Dalton and Gladys (Parker) Rucker in Madison County. He proudly served his country in World War II in The United States Army, and upon his return from the war, he spent the majority of his career in the trucking industry.  In his young life, Willon enjoyed water skiing.  He had a lifetime passion for heavy equipment and tractors, and in his latter years, he took great pleasure in tending to his rose garden.  Willon was a long-time member of The Church of Christ in Willis.

All who knew Willon understood his passionate love of people and he never met a stranger. Willon had a strong desire to share his love for Christ and spent his last days devoted to this cause. He loved his family immensely and will be sorely missed.  Although we sorrow, we are not without hope because of our faith in Christ Jesus our Lord as found in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18.

Willon was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Sammie, Jimmy and Dean; and his sisters, Eloise Colquitt and JoAnn Lucas.

Willon is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha (Moore) Rucker; his son Don Rucker and wife Sherry; his son David Rucker and wife Normelita; his daughter Tammy Hudson and husband Phil; 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Serving as Pallbearers are Frank Moore Jr., James Rucker, Sonny Goodrum, Tommy Conkling, Chris Rucker and Josh Rucker. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Carol Colquitt and Cary Lucas.
