Madisonville’s Junior High Wind Ensemble recently entered the Outstanding Performer Series (OPS) and advanced to the state level of competition.
“This is a very high honor for our students and teachers,” said Stephanie Schmidt, head band director for Madisonville CISD. “Band directors from all over the state judge other regions and areas for this competition. The bands entered are ranked for advancement. We ranked second out of 10 entries at region and third out of 21 entries at area. Our recording of Moscow, 1941 now heads to state competition on July 21 in San Antonio at the Texas Bandmasters Association convention.”
The junior high wind ensemble is directed by Jennifer Haden, Cameron Kidder and Greg Brown. This is the third time the wind ensemble has received a first division at concert UIL competition and the first time they have been entered into OPS competition.
The Outstanding Performer Series (OPS) competition is held every year in June and July. This competition is sponsored by the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB). Any band that receives a First Division or Superior rating in concert UIL is eligible to enter at their UIL level of competition.
“Many congratulations to the students and teachers of this awesome band – and good luck at state,” Schmidt said.
