She darted out in front of my car, and I slammed on the brakes, just missing her. She paid no attention, crossed into the next lane of traffic and acted as if she did not even care. I closed my eyes because I could not bear to see her get run over. Somehow, she made it across the street and then stopped and rested on the corner. She gazed around and seemed so lost and in need of help. It was a little reddish female dog in need of a home. She was pregnant and going to have puppies. I suppose the owners found out that she was pregnant and put her out on the streets. That little dog reminds me of a situation that Christians face in today’s world. How do we or our churches respond to unwed mothers? Many times, they are very young and just children themselves. All life is precious in God’s eyes, and I do not think he wants us to turn a blind eye to these situations. It pleases God very much when we have compassion and mercy and help others, (Deuteronomy 15:11, Matthew 5:7). Many Churches have, or help support, homes for unwed mothers and there are also private institutions or adoption agencies. I think we need to show these unwed acceptance, love and concern, (James 1:27) just as God did for us, (Hebrews 4:16)). .
