Madison County Library awarded accreditation

Recently, the Madison County Library was recognized by the state and officially awarded accreditation from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC) for Fiscal Year 2023. The library has been able to maintain its accreditation status for over 32 years, through meeting established criteria from the TSLAC including areas of staffing, collections, expenditures, and services provided to the public.

Neely Ferrell (Sparks) Cleere, 93, of Midway, TX, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at her home. A celebration of Ferrell’s life is scheduled for 12:30 pm on Thursday, October 13, 2022 at Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville, TX, followed by the burial at Madisonville Cemetery.

Murray Dale Corcorran dedicated husband, father of eight, and friend of many passed away on October 9th, 2022, at the age of 91 in Midway, Texas. Murray was born to Elbert and Anner Corcorran in Cordell, Oklahoma and settled in Texas at a young age.

The International Barbeque Cookers Association held a Texas State Championship at the Midway Volunteer Fire Department’s 16th Fall Fest barbeque starting on Friday, October 7, and ending on Saturday, October 8. At the event, the Regional Director for Region 1 of IBCA, Mike Gomez, spoke a little about the job and what he enjoys about it, “It’s challenging, it has its moments, and it’s a lot of fun, the great thing is going places and meeting great people,” said Mike Gomez “We’re the largest sanctioning body in the state of Texas, so we try and sanction the best cookoffs,” said Gomez.
