Lady Mustangs Improve to 15-2

The Madisonville Lady Mustangs volleyball team has won seven of their last eight matches, improving their overall record to 15-2.

The Lady Mustangs' recent streak began with a 3-1 victory over Teague at home on Aug. 20.

At the Anderson-Shiro Tournament on Aug. 22, Madisonville won four matches in a single day.

They defeated Latexo and St. Joseph in straight sets, overcame host Anderson-Shiro 2-1, and finished with a 2-0 victory over Normangee.

Madisonville High Seeks Male Mentors for Student Program

Madisonville High School launched a new initiative called Mustang Mentors, seeking local men to serve as positive role models for students. The program calls for volunteers to greet students as they arrive at school one Friday each month. Organizers are reaching out to dads, grandpas, uncles, father figures, and businessmen in the community.

As law enforcement increases its presence on Texas roadways leading up to Labor Day, drivers can save their own lives and the lives of others by finding a rideshare, transit, or other safe ride.

Midway Secures $500,000

The City of Midway has received a 2024 Community Development Block Grant for $500,000 from the Texas Department of Agriculture. According to the Texas Department of Agriculture’s website, the “primary objective of the Community Development Block Grant Program is to develop viable community by providing decent housing and suitable living environments and expanding economic opportunities.” As one might expect, a grant of this size, aimed at developing rural communities, is a competitive award.
