A second life for holiday conifers

During this winter holiday season, many people bring live evergreen plants into their homes according to their tradition. Decorations include Christmas trees, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa wreaths, etc. When the season is over, most of these plants will be put in the trash or set on the curb for cities to pick up and take to a facility where they'll be ground into mulch. There are other things you can do with the plants if they haven't been chemically treated.

Community Decorates Cemetery for Christmas

About 20 Madison County residents gathered Sunday at Madisonville Cemetery to honor fallen veterans by placing Christmas wreaths on their headstones, continuing a national tradition of remembrance. Madison County Judge Clark Osborne, who serves as president of the Madisonville Cemetery Association donated 300 wreaths for the ceremony, dramatically expanding the local effort that had secured only 17 wreath sponsorships throughout the year.
