Lawmakers agree on $8 billion school-funding package

Leaders from the Texas House and Senate have agreed on an $8 billion school-funding package, which is being called the largest in state history, The Dallas Morning News reported. The latest version of House Bill 2 was unveiled at a Senate hearing Thursday.

Madison County was formed in 1853 from parts of Walker, Grimes, and Leon Counties. Dr. P.W. Kittrell had been represented those first three counties in the State Legislature and chose the name Madison for after our country’s fourth president.
Madison County Museum Joins Blue Star Program

The Madison County Museum is proud to announce that it has become a Blue Star Museum for the first time this summer. This program results from the collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums nationwide to honor military families.
NZISD Summer Food Program launches

North Zulch Independent School District has announced the start of its annual summer food program, which will provide free meals to children ages 0-18 from Monday, June 2, to Thursday, June 26. The program will operate during lunch times on Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m.
Summer Reading Adventure Kicks Off

The City of Midway is excited to announce the start of its 10-week Summer Reading Program on Friday, May 30. Weekly sessions will run through Friday, Aug. 8 Madison County Children will gather at Midway City Hall from 10 a.m. to Noon each Friday, except for July 4.
Ruckfest to Honor Fallen Heroes

Special to the Meteor The Centerville Texas Ruckfest returns Memorial Day weekend with participants walking 22 miles to honor fallen military personnel. The event begins on Saturday, May 24, at the Centerville American Legion Post 355.

The City of Madisonville’s April Yard of the Month, located at 700 E. Viser, was selected for its consistently well-maintained lawn. The homeowners were recognized for their commitment to property upkeep, even during rainy weather.

MHS STUDENTS PROMOTE AUTISM AWARENESS

Madisonville High School Life Skills students display posters created for Autism Awareness Week, held April 22-26, with the theme “LOVE from a Different Angle.” During the awareness campaign, the students presented their messages at various locations, including the Madisonville CISD school board and the Madison County Commissioners Court.
