MadVille Seeks 2-0 in District Against Caldwell

The Madisonville Mustangs will look to build off their explosive start in district at Mustang Stadium Friday when they host a matchup against the Caldwell Hornets (3-2, 1-0). Despite an 0-5 mark in district in 2024, the Hornets claimed their opener over Giddings in decisive fashion by a score of 44-14.
Amending Texas’ Constitution, understanding the 2025 ballot: Propositions 15, 16 and 17

From Sept. 3 through Oct. 15, the Madisonville Meteor will feature a summary analysis with pros and cons of the 17 proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution. The amendments address workforce education, bail, capital gains, the Texas Water Fund, a Texas stock exchange, the ‘death tax,’ Dementia research funding, judicial misconduct, parents’ rights, voter citizenship status with seven specifically related to property tax exemptions.

Madison County Museum’s current exhibit is focused on locals who served or are serving in our military. In organizing it, I found a yellowed newspaper clipping which I quote next: “M/Sgt. Lawrence M. Grigory, 39, was one of the 13 members of the U.S. Air Force who was killed Saturday when two American tanker planes crashed over Normandy. The two U.S.A.F. KB29 aerial tanker planes collided in mid-air near St. Lo, France. Five of the crew members were injured and one was still missing at last reports.
Redistricting attracts GOP candidates

CAPITAL HIGHLIGHTS Redrawing the state’s congressional maps has pulled in 114 Republican candidates across the state’s 38 districts with nearly two months left until the filing deadline, the Houston Chronicle reported. The Texas Legislature redrew the maps at the request of President Donald Trump in hopes of gaining five additional GOP seats.

Chamber to host Trick or Treat Party downtown

Madisonville families will have a chance to celebrate the season together as downtown businesses and community groups prepare for the city’s annual Trick or Treat Party later this month. Hosted by the Madison County Chamber of Commerce and Madisonville Area Revitalization Initiative, the event will fill the square and downtown streets from 2-5 p.m.
