Madison County commissioners Wednesday, Nov. 12, approved an agreement for dividing seized property between Madisonville police and the district attorney's office.

Sony Sonsel left Houston as a 17-year-old kid in 1959 and returned home 21 years later as a decorated Special Forces soldier who served on five continents. Now 84, Sonsel served in the Army from 1959 to 1981, retiring as a sergeant first class after assignments in Fort Bragg, the Philippines, Korea, Okinawa, Vietnam, Egypt and Panama.

Local veterans, students and community members gathered at Madisonville CISD for the district's annual Veterans Day ceremony held Nov. 11. The event featured patriotic music from the school band and tributes to veterans from all branches of military service.

Leslie Blasingame joined the Navy in 1979 when women couldn’t serve on ships and pregnancy meant automatic discharge. She retired 24 years later as a chief petty officer after serving on three vessels.

Richard Blasingame left Houston at 17 with no direction and returned five years later as a disciplined Navy veteran who learned responsibility on one of America’s most dangerous workplaces. Blasingame, 64, served in the U.S.

The Madisonville football team concluded their 2025 season Friday with a 60-41 loss to the Robinson Rockets in the Bi-District round of the State Playoffs in Corsicana. It was the final game for 11 senior Mustang players, who left an indelible mark on the program.
