The Madison County Sheriff's Office received a donation of Stop the Bleed kits from the Brazos Valley Regional Advisory Council and CHI St. Joseph Health Emergency Medical Services.

1950 — 2026 Deborah Faye (Collard) Reed, 76, passed away on March 21, 2026, in Bryan, Texas. Debbie was born February 16, 1950, in Jozye Community, Madisonville, Texas to William Ottis and Flossie Faye (Montgomery) Collard.

Van put an end to the best Madisonville High School varsity boys soccer season in recent memory Monday, March 24, beating the Mustangs 5-1 in the area round at the Jacksonville Tomato Bowl. Madisonville finished 15-5-1 overall and 9-2-1 in University Interscholastic League 4A District 16, good for second place behind Palestine.

The following persons were arrested or booked into the Madison County jail on Sunday, March 22, through Sunday, March 29. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Madison County will test its emergency notification system Thursday, April 2, as part of a statewide drill coordinated by the Texas Division of Emergency Management. The test runs between 10 a.m.

Young barrel racers round the turns during the Madison County Fair Association youth rodeo Saturday, March 21 at the Madison County Fairgrounds in Madisonville. Competitors of all ages took to the arena, with parents running alongside the youngest riders and their horses during the barrel racing competition. 

Madison County has released a free smartphone app that puts everything from burn ban alerts to inmate searches to dump station maps in one place. The app, available in the App Store and Google Play by searching “Madison County TX,” covers more than a dozen county departments and services.

The Madisonville High School Lady Mustangs varsity softball team hit a wall in its first weeks of district play, losing five of six games between March 9 and March 27 to fall to 11-14 on the season. The lone bright spot came Tuesday, March 17 against Palestine at home.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called for Gov. Greg Abbott to remove acting state Comptroller Kelly Hancock, calling him an “incompetent loser,” The Dallas Morning News reported. Paxton said the governor should replace him with Don Huffines, who defeated Hancock in the GOP primary race for the post earlier this month.
