The Madisonville High School Mustangs varsity baseball team went 5-3 through its March schedule, picking up a pair of blowout wins and a walk-off comeback among the highlights before dropping a tough district opener to Hudson on Friday, March 20.

The following persons were arrested or booked into the Madison County jail on Sunday, March 15, through Sunday, March 23. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Madison County contains over 30 historical markers commemorating topics that tell the story of Texas. Too often they are beside busy highways, making it dangerous to pull off to read them. In the next few months, I intend to provide facts in a safer format.

Four Islamic schools have been admitted to the Texas voucher program after a federal judge ordered the state to invite the schools to apply, the Houston Chronicle reported. The judge also ordered the application deadline for families be extended to March 31, citing concerns that no Islamic schools had been approved for the program.

The completed Sexual Assault Response Team biennial report for Madison County is now public, covering two years of data on how local agencies respond to adult sexual assault cases. The Sexual Assault Resource Center compiled the report from data submitted by each of the nine agencies on the team.

Thomas Beck, born into slavery in Kentucky around 1819, won election to the Texas House three times and represented Madison County for nearly a decade after emancipation. On Saturday, April 11, a state historical marker will be unveiled in his honor at 11 a.m. on the south side of the Madison County Courthouse lawn.
