When it’s time to clean out your book shelves or DVD cabinets, the Madison County Library can be a great place to give your items a second life. You may be wondering what we do with the books after you drop them off for donation.

When you drop off your donated books or movies, we will examine each item for its use in our library. If we do not already have the item, we will determine if it is something we can use in our collection. If it is, we will process the book or movie to be used by Library patrons. If we deem the items too old or not useful to our collection, we will place them in our Book Shop.

Items that you plan to donate must be in good, clean, readable condition, with no rips, stains, smells, or dirt. We ask that you bring the items in boxes or bags. DVDs must be unscratched, and in playable condition. Soiled or damaged books and items will be discarded. Please, no Encyclopedias!

Patrons can browse our Book Shop located in our Annex Building when it is not in use. Inside our Book Shop you will find all kinds of reading material from fiction to non-fiction, in a variety of formats such as paperbacks, hardbacks, and children’s books. We have many spanning all topics of interest. We also have several carts at the entrance of the library full of a variety of materials for sale.

Prices for books and other items are by suggested donation, with a guideline of pricing recommended for each type. Most books sell for .25 cents to $1.00 each.

Occasionally, we do have to pause our donation collection due to space constraints, so it is a good idea to call us and see if we are currently accepting donations.

We often receive best-sellers and brand new items we may not need, so be sure and check out our book sale often. We welcome you to the Madison County Library and can’t wait to see you soon!

For more information, please call 936-348-6118. Our hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, closing from 1:00 to 2:00 pm for lunch.
