Hazel was born June 6, 1937 to Helen Stampley and Emmitt Yates in Bedias, Texas. She died in Bryan, T e x a s after having heart complications on December 11, 2020.

Hazel was attending Sam Houston State Teachers College when she married Jimmie Ray Adams on April 2, 1956 in Pasadena, Texas. From their marriage came a son Jimmie Ray Adams II and a daughter Dayna Lea Adams (Rhodes). After the loss of her husband Jimmie in 1961 in a plane accident at the Misawa Air Force Base in Japan she moved back to Texas with her two children. In 1963 she married Hubert Grant Weidman and from their union came two children Robert Alexander Weidman and Mamie Lea Weidman (Williams). Hazel was a member of the Presbyterian church in Baxter Springs where she taught Sunday school and was an elder and later became a member of the Bedias United Methodist church. In her years of living in Baxter Springs she was involved in numerous community organizations including PEO, a member of the school board & Circle. She worked at the Johnson Public Library and had so many precious memories of working for Pat & Kent Warstler at Kent’s Flowers. When she moved to Bedias she was an active member of the Bedias Museum & Library, Friends of the Bedias Baptist Church, Grimes County Historical Commission, Bedias Cemetery Association, and volunteer at the Son-Shine Outreach Center. She was a retired employee of the Texas Department of Corrections.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. When she was not spending time with her children or grandchildren, she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, reading, history, genealogy, drinking Dr Pepper, loving her many cats and dogs, and travel adventures with her cousin and good friend Wanda Bedenbaugh. She loved the USA and her favorite colors were red, white, and blue.

Her greatest contribution to her friends and family was to share her love and faith in Jesus Christ which was passed to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother Helen Hazel McCune, father Emmitt Yates, stepfather Robert McCune, husband Jimmie Ray Adams, husband Hubert Grant Weidman, brother Nelson Leon Yates, stepsister Margaret Ann Pryor, stepson Larry Grant Weidman and great grandson Maverick Weidman.

Survivors include brother Vernon (Buck) Yates of Conroe, Texas.

Grandchildren of Larry Grant Weidman, Heather and husband Rod with great grandchildren Harper, Jordan and Alex. Grant Weidman and wife Rebecca with great granddaughter Emma. Spencer Weidman and wife Kristen with great grandchildren Carson and Vance. Wesley Weidman and wife Carly and great grandchildren Payton, Hailey and Grace.

Son Jimmie Ray Adams II and wife Marsha of Osawtomie, Kansas with grandchildren Casie and David Lacey and great grandchildren Adam and Aden. Granddaughter Jessie and husband Lucas Allen. Grandson Aubry Adams.

Daughter Dayna Lea Rhodes and husband Mike of Bedias, Texas with granddaughter Holly and husband Craig Hill with great grandchildren Holland and Hayden Helton. Grandson Wade and Jessica Rhodes with great grandchildren Callie, Baylor and Easton.

Son Alex Weidman and wife Lisa of Paola, Kansas with granddaughter Alaina and Mitchell Sloan and granddaughter Alexis Weidman

Daughter Lea Williams and husband Jeff of Sabetha, Kansas with granddaughters Dayna and Madison Williams.

A private family service will be held at the Bedias Baptist Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held in the Summer of 2021 for friends & family to fellowship and share memories.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in memory of Hazel Weidman be made to the Bedias Cemetery Association, Grimes County Historical Commission, or the Friends of the Bedias Baptist Church.

Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Bedias oversaw the arrangements.
