Lady Stangs wrap up at Caldwell tourney

The Lady Mustangs softball team was busy this past weekend, playing two games on Friday and two games on Saturday to finish out the Caldwell Tournament 4-2.

After taking the first two games on Thursday the Lady Mustangs suffered their first loss of the tournament against Thrall by a score of 9-3. They quickly rebounded to take down the host team Caldwell, 17-3. That was followed by another win in big-time fashion over Rice Consolidated. Finally, Caldwell got revenge in Madisonville’s final weekend game 12-8.

After spotting the Tigerettes seven runs the Lady Mustangs finally crossed home plate in the bottom of the second inning. A two-run bomb by Jenna Yeager drove in Brynlee Urbantke to pull the Lady ‘Stangs within five at 7-2. A Maegan Anderson single later in the inning scored Darby Burke to wrap Madisonville’s scoring.

In the first match-up against the Lady Hornets Yeager drove in four runs on three hits and stole a base to lead Madisonville to their blowout win.

Against Rice Consolidated the Lady ‘Stangs had a big second and fifth inning to pull away with the win. Burke went 3-for-3, and Kyndall Creighton drove in three runs, and had a triple.

Caldwell wasted no time in getting revenge by jumping out with a six-run opening inning. After two innings the Lady ‘Stangs pulled back within one to be down 7-6. Another five-run inning gave the contest to Caldwell. Burke, Anderson, and Grace Coleman all finished the game 2-for-3.

Madisonville doubled up on Bellville 8-4, and dominated Manor New Tech 19-2 at the Caldwell Tournament Thursday.

Against Bellville Grace Williamson went 2-for-2 with one RBI and Grace Coleman went 2-for-3 with two RBI’s.

After the first two innings of play the Lady Brahmas and Madisonville were knotted at three.

The game ended in the bottom of the third when the Lady Mustangs went on a 5 run tear to seal the victory.

Sidnie Smith caught fire in the Lady Mustangs second game of the evening going 4-for-4 with 4 Runs and 4 RBI’s. Along with her two triples in the game Smith went the distance on the mound giving up just two hits and striking out five. Smith’s other two hits were both singles, one in the first and one in the fourth inning.

Coleman was also a presence in the second game going 3-for-3 with 3 Runs and 3 RBI’s.

Jadyn Hooten also drove in 3 runs to contribute to the Lady Mustangs big win over the Lady Titans.

Jenna Yeager ran wild with three stolen bases as the team collectively nabbed 13 bases on the night.

Madisonville was in action Tuesday night, hosting New Waverly before heading off to the Franklin Tournament this weekend.
