On Wednesday, Dec. 13, the Timpson Bears won the Class 2A Division 1 State Championship with Madisonville Native Austin Ashley by their side. Ashley graduated from Madisonville High School in 2015 and was involved in all sports, especially football.

Normange native Joseph Jones has been named acting Head Coach of the Tarleton State University’s men’s basketball team after head coach Billy Gillispie's ongoing medical issues. Jones has been fulfilling this role since Nov. 19 for the Tarleton Athletics program but has now been announced as acting head coach official on Tuesday, Dec.

During the week of Dec. 15, the Madisonville Lady Mustang racked up a win against Nacogdoches and a loss against Huntsville. The team scored 62 points, holding down the Dragons to 42 to finish off the game on Tuesday, Dec.

During Tuesday's non-league game, the Madisonville Mustangs 3-7 lost to the Rudder Rangers 9-4 with a final score of 77-39.

With the defeat, Madisonville travels to Lake Creek, Montogomery, to face the Lions 10-5, on Tuesday, Dec. 19; stay tuned next week for the results.

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Slocum Mustangs defeated the visiting North Zulch Bulldogs by a score of 71-38.

On the week of Dec. 15, the Lady Bulldogs faced Dime Box and McDade, beating both teams and securing two wins for district play.

Over the past week, the Madisonville Mustangs have faced stiff competition in the Navasota Tournament at Navasota High School, gaining some wins and some losses to their overall record of 3-6 Before the tournament began, the boys played against the Crockett Bulldogs, ultimately losing the matchup by one point, 53-52, on Tuesday, Dec. 5.

The Madisonville Mustangs faced intense matchups at the Madisonville Classic Tournament for basketball. Several defeats and one win marked the tournament for the Mustangs.

Starting the North Zulch Basketball tournament, the Lady Bulldogs faced the Conroe Covenant Christian as their first game on Thursday, Nov.18, losing to them by a score of 58-30. The next day, the Lady Bulldogs faced the Latexo Tigers, coming out strong with a close game of 37-34, a nail-biting victory.
