Speaker open to resort-style casinos in state

House Speaker Dade Phelan, R-Beaumont, told The Dallas Morning News and other media outlets that he is open to bringing resort-style casinos to Texas. But don’t expect to find slot machines in 7-Eleven stores if casino gambling is legalized. “What I don’t want to see is to walk into every convenience store and see 15 slot machines,” Phelan said.

Douglas Wayne Cain, 74, of Madisonville, Texas, passed away at his home of natural causes. He was preceded in death by his father, JT Cain and mother, Lucille Parker Palmer. He was also preceded in death by his uncle, Pete Parker and aunt, Phyllis Parker with whom he lived with from a very early age, farming cotton, peanuts, corn and raising cows while on the farm with them.

Peggy Wilson or “Peg,” as she referred to herself, was born in Houston, Texas to Heron and Mildred Ferguson and lived there thirty-six years until she moved to Huntsville and then Midway, where she raised her children. Anxious to return to the Houston area, she did so from 2005-2015 before coming back to spend her last years with Les “on the hill.”
