An Arctic air surge swept through Texas and Brazos Valley on Sunday night Jan. 14, with temperatures remaining at or below freezing since Monday, Jan 15.
On Tuesday, Jan. 9, the Madison County Commissioners Court held a session where they discussed some items on the agenda. The court approved an upgrade for the AgriLife Extension Office, authorizing a contract with UBEO Business Services for a new Ricoh IM Color Digital Imaging System to get a new printer.
People from the Madisonville community gathered for a fun-filled bingo event on Friday, Jan. 12, at the Madison County Fairgrounds. The fundraiser, hosted by the Madison County 4H Livestock Judging, aimed to support the team's future activities, It drew a large crowd from the local community, showing the community support for youth agricultural programs in the county.
Members of the local community and some from out of state participate in the 29th Annual Lone Star 5000+ Coon Hunt in Iola, Texas, from Jan. 11-13. The event featured traditional hunting and helped support the local Iola FFA Booster Club, which put on a steak dinner fundraiser during the hunt.

AUSTIN — TxDOT is raising awareness about the dangers of human trafficking and working with other state agencies to help stop this horrific crime. During National Human Trafficking Prevention Month in January, TxDOT is continuing its “On the Road to End Human Trafficking” campaign and working with other state agencies through the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Coordinating Council and the Texas Human Trafficking Prevention Task Force.
The City of Madisonville has put out a Citizen’s Survey, encouraging all who live within Madisonville’s city limits to participate. The survey asks city residents about a variety of topics, including street maintenance, quality of the downtown square, animal services and the quality of their police services.
