MidSouth Electric Coop recently announced plans to expand fiber internet service inside Madisonville city limits, with rollout coming either at the end of the current year or the beginning of 2024.

Priority will be given to government buildings, and individuals preregistered with MidSouth Fiber.

“Pre-registration is important to receive communication from MidSouth. All those pre-registered will have access to installation on a first-come, first-serve basis,” said William Graves, Fiber Network Operations Manager from MidSouth.

The overall objective of MidSouth Fiber is to enhance the quality of life by facilitating easy access to their internet system, providing customer support, and providing user-friendly apps for efficient network management.

“We treat our internet service the same way we treat our electric. If you need support, we will have those trucks rolling in 45 minutes,” said Darryl Dickerson, Fiber Solutions Architect from MidSouth.

The company’s service coverage spans five counties. It includes tailored packages for businesses and homeowners, including an additional layer of data protection. Notably, the company has addressed that the technical support for businesses will be swift in case of outages.

“Business customers are given a designated support line to direct their calls directly to a level two support technician,” said Graves.

In addition, commercial customers receive priority repair service during any outages, mainly to ensure that vital businesses remain open during disasters.

“MidSouth considers internet to be a vital service. Whether storm or any other type of disaster which may take out internet lines, we will do our best to make sure the local businesses are able to function with the internet connection they need,” said Dickerson.

One notable aspect of the company is the transparency that Data caps and throttling will not occur for their customers like in other ISP companies and their speeds are symmetrical both up and down. Other user-friendly smartphone apps allow for efficient network management.

“I think many of us who have used other services in the past know what it is like to get down to the end of a billing cycle and see our internet speed slow. At MidSouth, we don’t do that. We’re not going to throttle the customer,” said Stacey Forgason, Communications Manager with MidSouth.

MidSouth has also stated that in their app, you can determine which device gets more bandwidth by allowing users to control the bandwidth to each device or downright block access to devices when using the internet.

“If your kid is watching a movie and you’re doing work, you can decide who gets more bandwidth, same with if your kid gets home and they need to do homework, you can turn off the internet for their devices,” said Graves.

MidSouth Electric Coop is offering customizable packages starting at the price of $64.95 for 100 Mbps, with one of their highest price at $149.95 for 2 Gbps.

Businesses come with their pricing and options compared to residential.
