Out with the old, in with the new

Editor’s Note: Opinions in this column are not representative of the views of The Madisonville Meteor. Remember the days when Jack Hunter was frequently seen around Madisonville? Back when he was the County Agent for Madison County? These days Hunter primarily spends his time in Normangee since he is President of Normangee State Bank. But Hunter may once again be a familiar face around his hometown, according to Joel Shaw , CEO of Normangee State Bank.

Starting the new year, the Madisonville Police Department was dispatched to 204 South May St. on a robbery in progress at the VIP Smoke shop on Monday, Jan. 1, at 10:50 p.m.

In their final meeting of the year, held on Wednesday, Dec. 27, the Madison County Commissioners Court addressed three agenda items and paid the county bills.

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, the Heart of Texas Chapter of the American Red Cross proudly presented Garrett Rider with an American Red Cross Lifesaving Award — Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action. The incident occurred on Jan. 3, 2023, when Garrett and his sister Kyndall were on the road.

Members of the Madisonville Junior High School National Junior Honor Society donated to the local volunteer animal shelter Rufus Refuge on Thursday, Dec 21.

Sunday, Dec. 31, marked the one and half years of service that K-9 Sgt. Maverick has been with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.

The following persons were arrested or booked into the Madison County jail on Sunday, December 24, through Monday, January 1. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
