On July 8, 1990 in Houston, Texas, a handsome baby boy entered the land of the living to Mr. Eddie L. Mason, Jr. and Audurial Gilbert-James. He was named Austin Pierre’ Mason. Austin attended and graduated High School from Madisonville CISD in Madisonville, Texas in 2008. After graduating High School, Austin attended Blinn College in Brenham, Texas to study Kinesiology. Austin worked at Bucee’s for a year and then went to work in the oilfield business for EZ Construction and worked there for three years. He later went on to work at O’Reilly’s in Madisonville until his death.

Austin loved horses, trail riding, fishing and cooking, where he thought he was a chef. Austin would always call his mother for instructions on how to cook certain things that he wanted to taste like his mama’s cooking. Austin loved being with his Mom, listening to blues, country, western and old school music.

Austin departed his earthly home May 1, 2021. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Eddie L. Mason, Sr. & Gladys Mason; his maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Margaret Gilbert and his aunt, Tangela Smith. Austin leaves to cherish his father, Eddie L. Mason, Jr. (Madisonville); mother, Audurial James (Dallas); the Daddy who had a hand in helping raise him, Johnny Wheaton (Madisonville); step-daddy, Marcus “Pops” James (Dallas); son, Austin Pierre’ Mason, Jr.; girlfriend, Tanita Ashley; sisters, Laketa Mason (Conore), Courtney Mason and Ashley Johnson (both of Huntsville), Evelyn Winn, Whitney Turner and Logan James (all of Madisonville), Ebony and Martajah James (Bryan) and Cadeshia Beltran and husband, Roman (Amarillo); brothers, Eddie L. Mason, III (Madisonville), Eddie Mason, IV (Bryan), E-Quantay Mason (New Jersey) and Marcus Turner (Madisonville); aunts, Miranda Wheaton and husband, DeWayne (Bedias), Demita Sweet and husband, Carl (Houston), Sheree James (Bryan) and Nikki Vaughn, Reva Reeves (both of Dallas), Ruby Terrell and husband, Eddie B., Nell James and Dale Wheaton (all of Madisonville) and uncles, Lawrence Mason (Dallas), Michael Smith (Madisonville), Lloyd and Samuel Gilbert (both of Houston) and Damion Green and wife, Monique (Huntsville). Also are grandmothers, Jessie Mae Gilbert (Houston), Doris Turner (Dallas) and Rogers Lee Wheaton; god-parents, Laquita Proctor and Rev. Cedric Rouse (Bryan) and Lois Price (Madisonville); bonus mothers, Gladis Johnson, Denice Betts and Crystal Turner; god-brothers, Alonzo Whaley and wife, Chelsey (Lincoln, NE) and Dedrick Whaley; god-sisters, Gayla Brown (Bryan), Bremica Taylor, Justice Merchant and Cebria Brice (all of Madisonville); special friends/brothers, Clint Manning, Kimbo Betts, Trey McCoy, Chris Simpson and Wesley Birks; first cousins, Tyrone Coleman, Brandon Gilbert, JaCorey Gilbert, Nikia Robinson, LaQuesas McCarty and Lloyd Gilbert, Jr., as well as a host of nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Homegoing services for Austin were held 2 p.m., Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas. Rev. Cedric Rouse officiated the service. Interment followed in West End Cemetery, Madisonville, Texas.
