Harvey Carrol Johnston, Jr. died at home on January 24, 2023, at the age of 83. He was born in Houston, Texas on September 23, 1939 He graduated from Aldine High School in 1958 and served four years in the Air Force. After leaving the Air Force he went to work for Armco. In December 1983, after twenty-one and a half years, he retired due to the plant being shut down. After retiring from Armco, he continued his career working as a Plant and Safety Manager until he retired again in 2002 due to health problems.

He and Dottie (wife), moved to Madisonville, Texas where he was routinely surrounded by family and friends. Harvey enjoyed his years in Madisonville based on his long standing connection. Both his parents were raised in Madisonville and as a child, he frequently visited family members in the area.

Harvey enjoyed life.

He loved the outdoors with fishing being at the top of his outdoor activities. He also had a green thumb and loved to work in his garden along with participating in the local Rock Hound Club collecting rocks.

His true passion above all other was spending time with his family and friends talking about the “old times.”

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Harvey Carrol Johnston, Sr. and Ida Mae Johnston; and his daughter, Deborah Marie Johnston.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie Johnston; his son, David Wesley Johnston (wife, Athena); granddaughter, Hannah Nicole Johnston; sister, Frances Jones; stepson, Douglas K. Trager (wife, Lisa); step-grandchildren, Chad, Raven, Trevor and Heather; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was loved by all.

A graveside service for Harvey was held 1 P.M., Monday, January 30, 2023 at Rock Prairie Cemetery, Madisonville, Texas. Wayne Stansbury officiated the service.

Arrangements were under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
