1940 – 2023
Morris Heath “Pete” Smith, 83 of Midway, TX, passed away at his home on Thursday, Nov. 30, 2023. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, at Day Funeral Home in Madisonville, TX. Pete’s life was celebrated 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2023, at Day Funeral Home with the burial to follow at Midway City Cemetery. Bros. Brad Brock and Winston Spencer officiated.

Pete was born on Sept. 17, 1940 in Midway, TX to J.B. and Willie Dell (Crocker) Smith. He was the long-time ranch foreman for Samuel & Samuel Cattle Company; and when he wasn’t ranching; he was fishing or hunting.

Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou (Gardovsky) Smith; his parents; and his siblings, Wanda McLain and F.J. Smith.

Pete is survived by his son, Frank “Rowdy” Smith and his wife, Wanda; his sister, Mary McKinney; numerous nieces and nephews; and lots and lots of friends.

Serving as pallbearers are John Samuel Bankhead, Brandon Bennett, Ray Harris, Colby Lovell, Corbin Turner and Dalton Turner.

Serving as honorary pallbearers are John Bankhead, Tommy Kyle, Willie Martin, Jim McAdams, Gene Stokes and Tracey Turner.
