Body

Nelda Ruth Murphy, mostly known as Ruth, died peacefully after a brief illness at her home with her only surviving son by her side. She will be greatly missed but she’s no longer in pain and she’s celebrating her new life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years Gerald Murphy, her son Gerald Eugene (Gene) Murphy, both parents, father Willie Oran Mosley, mother Ellen Bernice Catoe Mosley Washburn, sister Mary Orilla White and brothers Walter Henry Mosley, Billy Earl Mosley and Joseph Morris Mosley.

She is survived by one son, Kenneth Ray Murphy of Florida; grandsons Kenny Murphy and great grandsons Wyatt and Dylan all of Florida; grandson Kevin Murphy of Florida; Grandson John Zackary Murphy and great grandsons Bryson and Jaxon, all of Bryan; brothers Wendell Oran Mosley of Madisonville and John Wayne Mosley of Houston.

She was born in Madisonville and moved to Houston in 1942 where she met and married Gerald Murphy. Gerald was a lineman for HL&P which took them to Houston, Rosenberg and later Freeport until retiring and settling in Madisonville.

As her son and caregiver for the past seven years, there is no greater loss that I can imagine than losing this precious lady. She had such a warm and loving spirit. She loved to cook for her grandsons and great-grandsons and she loved her little house where she spent the final years of her life. All who knew her loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.

UPDATE Nelda Ruth will be laid to rest Friday April 7th, 2023. The service will be held 10am at New Life Missionary Baptist Church 1508 Collard Rd Madisonville, TX. The Rev Lloyd Jones, Sr will be offering the eulogy. Her son, Kenneth, will open the ceremony with a few words honoring her life.

Mother will be buried next to her husband, my father Gerald, at 10 Mile Cemetery, Madison County, at the conclusion of the ceremony. All who wish to join us, The Madisonville Funeral Home will have prepared the gravesite and your presence is most welcome.
