William Ray “Bill” Surface was born September 10, 1933 in Houston, TX. He went to be with the Lord June 3, 2023 in Huntsville, TX. Bill was born to George Lester Surface Sr and Della Mae Hastings Surface. He was the third of six children.

Bill married Elsie Joyce Roco June 4, 1954. They had five children: William Ray, Jr., Morris Dale, Bonnie Ruth, Nancy Annette and Daniel Duane. While living in Spring, Texas, Bill was a crop farmer and did custom hay bailing. Bill was a successful dairyman and farmer for many years, eventually settling in Bedias, TX and establishing a dirt contracting business.

He worked hard all his life to make sure his family was well taken care of.

In his free time, Bill enjoyed traveling and watching sports, especially football. In his younger years, he enjoyed watching his own children and grandchildren play the game as well.

Bill was preceded in death by both of his parents; wife, Elsie Joyce (Roco) Surface; siblings, Virginia Surface Kraemer, George Lester Surface, Jr., Dale Surface and Jerry Surface and great granddaughter, Lilly Brooke

Jones.

He is survived by second wife, Claudette Surface of Cut and Shoot; children, William Ray Surface, Jr. (Danis) of Singleton, Morris Surface (Denise Ballard) of Bedias, Bonnie Waldrep (Raymond) of Comanche, Nancy Reeves of Huntsville and Daniel Surface (Lynn) of Nacogdoches; brother, Leroy Surface (Christine) of Porter and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, as well as extended family members and friends.

The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Betty Garrett for her friendship and help over the last year!

A funeral service honoring Bill’s life was held 10 A.M., Thursday, June 8, 2023 at Bedias Baptist Church. Rev. John Gaston officiated the service. Interment followed in Bedias Methodist Cemetery.

Final arrangements were under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
