The Madisonville soccer team picked up a district victory over Trinity this week by a score of 3-0 with goals coming from Erick Martinez and two from Vladimir Morales. The Madisonville men’s basketball team dropped a pair of district matchups with a 67-48 loss to highly-touted La Vega at MHS Friday and a 36-32 loss at China Spring Monday. The Mustangs were 2-2 in district play entering Tuesday’s matchup at Robinson, who they defeated 63-39 in their first matchup Jan. 24. CAMPBELL ATKINS

Former Madisonville and current Sam Houston State football player Chris Scott was awarded a full scholarship by SHSU football last week. The defensive lineman has also applied for the masters program and graduates this spring. Scott will play next fall as a graduate student-athlete for the Bearcats. The Madisonville soccer team picked up a pair of victories over the week with a 3-1 district win against New Waverly and a 2-1 non-district win over Tyler. The Mustangs saw goals from Issac Hinojosa, Vladimir Morales and Juan Torres against New Waverly with assists from Cristian Vasquez and Gabriel Aceves.
