Substitute Teacher Training

The Madisonville CISD Community Education Program will offer a substitute teacher training class beginning Monday, June 14 and lasting through Thursday, June 17, at Madisonville Elementary School. The class will meet from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in the library. The registration fee is $35. Ronald Hinrichs, 77, of Bedias passed away in a Bryan hospital May 26, 2021 following an extended illness. A celebration of his life took place 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in North Zulch, Texas. Pastor of the church, Randall Smith, officiated the service.

Graveside services for Ruth Lynch, 85, were held 2 p.m., Friday, May 28, 2021 at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in the Mt. Tabor Community of Madison County. Pastor Wade Phillips officiated the service. Ruth passed away May 26, 2021 at her home following an extended illness.

Little League holds closing ceremonies

The Madisonville Little League honored their players with a closing ceremony for their spring baseball season in the presence of friends and family members May 26 in the Madisonville High School Auditorium. The event was originally scheduled to take place at the Lake Madison Park fields but was moved due to expected inclement weather.

ROPING FOR A CAUSE

Madisonville native and reigning Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) National Finals Rodeo (NFR) World Champion Roper Colby Lovell hosted the 1st Annual Cody NesSmith Memorial Team Roping at the Leon County Expo Center Saturday through Monday. Proceeds from the event helped launch the Cody NesSmith Foundation to help families whose children are battling cancer. Cody was an avid team roper and close friend of Lovell who was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer and lost his battle in July of last year. Based on his wishes, a foundation is being started in his memory to help others going through cancer treatment. The Foundation is chaired by Kay and Tony NesSmith. Madisonville Little League held their closing ceremonies in the MHS auditorium May 26 and honored their players’ hard work for the spring season with trophies in the presence of friends and family. League President Heather Lowery also announced her intentions to step down from the position in a speech to the crowd. Lowery helped rejuvenate the organization during her time at the helm.
