Madisonville football team torched the Teague Lions in their first road matchup of the season Friday by a score of 35-0, with all of their points coming in the first half before a running clock was used in the second. The 2-1 Mustangs will return to MHS for their homecoming matchup against highly-touted Lorena Friday.

The Madisonville CISD board held their monthly meeting for September Monday and welcomed seven new staff members who began teaching in the district to start the semester. The staff members in attendance were Kelsey Byrd, Gia Harrison, Annette Bingham, Katie Hooks, Brittney Smith Skuria, Whitlee Burke and Sarah King.

The Madisonville offense struggled to find room in their ground attack against a strong defensive front in Friday’s 42-14 loss to Liberty at home to even their record at 1-1 on the young season. “(Liberty) plays a different defensive front,” said head coach Russell Urbantke Monday.

The Madisonville volleyball team dropped a pair of non-district home matchups to Splendora Aug. 31 and Liberty Friday after getting off to slow starts in each contests. The Lady Mustangs traveled to Huntington Tuesday and will host Rudder at MHS Friday.

Barbara Ann Lee Reynolds passed away peacefully at the age of 81 at her home in High Island surrounded by her loved ones on August 29, 2021. A celebration of life was held Saturday, September 4, at 4 p.m. at Day Funeral Home in Madisonville, Texas. A burial followed at Allphin Cemetery in Midway, Texas. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 3 at Day Funeral Home.

David Michael Olm, 43, of Madisonville, Texas passed away at his home on Sunday, September 5, 2021. David was born on May 10, 1978 in Bryan, Texas and graduated from Madisonville High School in 1996. During his life, he enjoyed living in Austin, College Station, and Madisonville, and was employed in various positions in the service industry. He had a love for riding motorcycles, especially on the open road, relaxing at the lake, and liked nothing more than spending time with family and friends; David will be greatly missed by all who knew him. David will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Christy Olm, son, Cody LaCombe, mother, Brenda Olm, two sisters, Corye Sparks (Jeff), Tara Tate (Shannon), lifelong friend, Coley Dool, and several aunts, uncles, a niece and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Olm, grandparents, Joseph and Doris Rasler, and Kenneth and Jane Olm. David put his faith and trust in Jesus, and is now in the loving arms of his Savior. A celebration of life will be held with close family and friends.
