Through the years, Madisonville has suffered great losses from fires, most often at businesses. One legendary home that burned was the Harper house on Halloween, 1965. It had been unoccupied since June, 1931, but it always attracted attention. It was built by local architect and builder John Douglas Brownlee, for Carl Thurston Harper and Jennie Webb Harper and at the southwest corner of the intersection of Woodrow and Magnolia streets. I haven’t been able to find any good photos of the home, either in its prime or as the aged wreck it became. It had a story, so let me take you back. Folks came before the house.

Despite low voter turnout, Kyle Kacal secured the Republican nomination for Texas House District 12 during the primary runoff election June 24. Of the 1,110 votes cast in Madison County, Kacal won 720 against republican challenger Ben Bius, or 65 percent.

One hundred and twenty one Madisonville High School seniors walked across the stage at Bernard Johnson Coliseum at Sam Houston State University May 26, signifying their completion of applied credits – and graduates of the class of 2022.

Kevin Compton has been tapped for the new principal of North Zulch High School starting his new position July 1, 2022. Compton has been a sojourner, with stops in Waco, Marlin, Austin, Haskell, and most recently Giddings, where he served as Assistant Principal for the past two years.
