A short-lived federal funding freeze announced by President Donald Trump on Monday, Jan. 27, will not affect the city’s current grant-funded projects, but new restrictions on programs promoting workplace diversity could impact future funding, according to city officials.
While Madisonville schools keep serving meals as usual, some childcare centers wrestle with frozen federal funds, and Head Start programs nationwide faced brief shutdowns. “From the most recent guidance from USDA, there appears to be no changes to the National School Lunch Program that will affect MCISD and the services we provide to our students,” an MCISD spokesperson said.
