The unexplained deaths of six cows on properties along Texas OSR discovered with body parts removed using “apparent precision” has Madison County deputies looking for answers.

In all the cases, “there were no signs of struggle or disturbance in the grass, no blood spill and no noticeable tracks,” according to a Facebook post Wednesday by the Sheriff’s Office. “No predators or birds would scavenge the remains for several weeks after death.”

The mystery has prompted deputies to share information with other agencies.

“Multiple similar incidents have been reported across the United States and we are actively coordinating with other agencies to find answers,” the post said. “Please notify the Madison County Sheriff’s Office if you or someone you know observes any similar occurrences. Anyone with information on these cases, please contact Investigator Foster at 936-348-2755 during business hours.”

Deputies did not post a timeline on the grisly discoveries but did note they spanned a stretch of the roadway “running into Brazos County as well as Robertson County. Each incident occurred in different locations, pastures and herds.”

In the first incident, ranchers stumbled upon a 6-year-old longhorn-cross cow lying on its side, its mouth stripped of hide on one side with “apparent precision,” investigators said.

The meat underneath remained untouched as if someone had meticulously removed the hide, according to the sheriff’s report.

Investigators said the cow's tongue was completely missing, leaving no traces of blood. The scene was undisturbed, with no indication of struggle, footprints or tire tracks, according to the report.

In the other cases, four adult cows and even a yearling were found in the same condition— lying on one side with their faces cut along the jawline, the tongue surgically extracted, and in some cases, a circular cut made to remove the anus and external genitalia with the same precision as the jawline cuts, according to the sheriff’s report
