There were an estimated 75 active cases of COVID-19 in Madison County as of Tuesday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

Madison County has received a total of 300 doses of the Moderna vaccine since the state began the distributing process in December. Of the total doses, 100 have gone to CHI St. Joseph Health Hospital in Madisonville and 100 have gone to both Brookshire Brothers pharmacy locations, each in Madisonville.

The vaccine providers are required to enter data into a state database to record the allotted doses. The status of these locations are monitored and may be replenished by the state. This process is managed between the state and vaccine providers.

The comprehensive lists that outline which counties and which locations within a county receiving vaccines, broken down weekly, can be accessed on the DSHS website.

“Our office does not determine who administers or receives the vaccines,” said Madison County Emergency Management Coordinator Shelly Butts. “We have been working with (DSHS officials) to help get the message out to those groups of people who are eligible to receive the vaccines, according to the state plan, so that they coordinate with providers.”

According to the DSHS, there have been 992 total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Madison County and 18 fatalities.
