This is a busy busy week so better take an extra dose of those vitamins.

First, if you like oysters, Thursday is your special day. That’s when Legends Steak House serves up a bunch of oysters!

Also this Thursday, It’s roping time again. The community-wide event, held in the arena behind Crossroads Cowboy Church, is a good time to watch some cowboys test their skills, visit with your neighbors and let the kids run and play. Maybe go early to eat the oysters at Legends and then to the roping.

Not an oyster fan? No worries Mom! You still don’t have to cook supper. A “fully loaded” food truck will be at the roping ready to feed you and your gang. By the way, sometime during the roping, the competition will pause for a few Bible thoughts from Kris Kelso, the pastor at Crossroads Cowboy Church.

Onto Friday, which begins a weekend dedicated to Trooper Juan Tovar. It really is a cuddly teddy bear feeling to be a part of this community. As you know, last week, Trooper Tovar was seriously injured and this week our town is stepping up to help him and his family.

Already a prayer vigil has been held on the steps of the Courthouse. Also, the boys soccer team playing in the District of South Texas Cup last weekend wore a blue line over the team’s crest in honor of Trooper Tovar and all law enforcement officers. That’s good. Those boys are learning more than just how to kick a soccer ball.

By the way these boys are state bound May 1 and 2!

Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., McKenzie Barbeque is holding a benefit for the Trooper. When you eat with them Friday, they will donate a percentage of your ticket to Trooper Tovar and family.

Then Sunday, think about topping the week off with a meal at Joe’s Grill where you can choose from salads, subs or all kinds of exceptional pasta dishes.

Lunch specials are great and plenty to eat! In fact, enough food that Ronnie and I had leftovers for supper. I liked that!

The new Italian restaurant, which recently opened, is just down from Tractor Supply.

Now is the time to purchase those steak dinner tickets for the 81st Annua Madisonville Sidewalk Cattlemen’s Association Steak Dinner coming up Saturday, May 1. That’s only a little over two weeks away. It’s going to be a fun night.

The Gates open at 6:00 p.m. while the dinner and auction begin at 7:15 p.m.

There’s a twist to the auction this year, several of the 4-H students gave added item the auction. Five of them made it into the live auction while others will be in the silent auction.

Then plan to stick around for a little boot-scootin’ to the music of the Texas Unlimited Band. Dancing kicks off at 9.00 p.m. Did I mention the tables are almost sold out? You better hurry and “get her done!”

Speaking of getting it done, Sam Bennett did it again! Last weekend he won the Aggie Invitational, his third victory in a row.

In addition to that prize, the Hogan Trophy Award Foundation announced Monday that Bennett swept past two other finalists to win the title of “Ben Hogan Award March Golfer.” At the end of the year, the Foundation also gives an annual award. Bennett may just bring that one home, too.

Congratulations to the Delasandri family, which just keeps on growing! Last Thursday April 8, David and Breelan Angel Delesandri added Ridge Wayne to the clan. Ridge weighed 7.1 lbs. and was 19.5 inches long.

David is the son of David and Judi Delasandri. Ridge is #7 on their grandchildren list.

Now for the birthday list: Happy belated birthday to Noella Smith, whose birthday was last Sunday. Also belated anniversary wishes to Helen and Arnold Cole. The couple celebrated 63 years of marriage April 5. That’s pretty special.

This week, Whitney Bankhead celebrates her birthday Wednesday, that’s April 14, the day that hopefully you are reading the Meteor. Ione Martin celebrates her special day Thursday.

Saturday is birthday time for Doug Downard and it’s also birthday time for two Madisonville gals who married and moved away, Sarah Schuerg, daughter of Debby and David Hammit, and Stephanie Clute, daughter of Bunkin and Candy Bennett.

Maci Cahill’s birthday is Sunday, April 18, while Wendy Dutton and Clarke Osborn share the birthdays next Monday. Right behind them is Brenda Madole blowing out candles next with Joshua Swartz and Hannah Cole doing their celebrating next Wednesday, April 21.

We wind out this week by sending happy anniversary wishes to Kenneth and Shirley Farris. They celebrate their anniversary April 21. Isn’t this the 54th anniversary Shirley?

By the way, I’ve always wanted to hear “The Life and Times of Kenneth Farris.” I think there is a book in there somewhere. Kenneth, whose career was as an airline pilot, should have plenty of stories to tell.

And finally, did you see the movie “Second Hand Lions”? It was a 2003 movie, yes, a long time ago. If you missed it, it would be worth trying find.

Robert Duvall and Michael Caine starred in the movie as two eccentric Texas farmers who happened to be the great-uncles of a reclusive 14-year-old. Yep, mom sent the kid to the great uncles for the summer and the rest is part comedy, part drama.

At one time in the movie, Walter, the 14-year-old, poses a question to Robert Duvall. In my book, his answer should be on a wall in everyone’s house.

“Sometimes the things that may or may not be true are the things that a man needs to believe in the most. That people are basically good. That honor, courage and virtues mean everything. That power and money, money and power mean nothing; that Good always triumphs over Evil; and I want you to remember this: That Love, true Love never dies. Doesn’t matter if any of this is true or not. You see, a man should believe in these things because these are the things worth believing in.” Amen Mr. Duval.

See you ‘round town.
