The Madisonville Police Department arrested 46-yearold Bryan resident and owner of the El Mercadito Produce store in Madisonville Jose Jaime Rivera Friday on five felony charges, including two counts of Sexual Assault of a Child, one count of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, one count of Sexual Abuse of a Child Continuous (victim under the age of 14) and one count of Indecency with a Child by Sexual Assault.

MPD investigated the case for approximately a month before ultimately searching the South May Street (Highway 75 South) establishment with the necessary warrants Friday and believe there could be more victims involved.

El Mercadito Produce is located across the street from Madisonville High School.

“The location of the store across from the school and the neighborhood behind it,” said MPD Chief Herbert Gilbert when asked why officials felt there could still be more to the case. “We are concerned that there could be more victims. We always consider there could be more (in cases such as this).”

Rivera was booked into the Madison County Jail before he was released on a $195,000 bond Friday evening.

MPD initially released the details of the arrest via a Friday Facebook post and urge anyone with knowledge of further potential information regarding the case to contact them at 936-348-3317.
