Madisonville teen found safe
A 19-year-old woman reported missing over the weekend has been located and is safe, according to Madisonville Police Department officials.
Kiya Gantz was reported missing to the Madisonville Police Department on Sunday after she was last seen around 1:30 a.m. Sunday, April 13, in the 600 block of North May Street.
According to the Police Department, she was found to be located and safe.
"She walked into the local police department where she was located during the search and told them that she was a missing person and that she was safe and she was okay," Brandon Evans, Criminal Investigation Division lieutenant with the Madisonville Police Department, said.
A press release from the Stephenville Police Department confirmed that on Monday, April 14, Gantz voluntarily came to their department and confirmed she was safe and not in any danger.
Gantz advised Stephenville officers that she had chosen to leave home of her own accord and had been staying with friends during this time, according to the press release. She further expressed that she did not wish to return home and stated her departure was intentional and not the result of any criminal activity or coercion.
The press release noted that Gantz is over the legal age of adulthood and there is no court documentation ordering guardianship for her. Officials stated there was no indication of foul play or any threat to her safety.
Before Gantz was found, authorities had issued an alert and launched what they described as an "active statewide endangerment search."
"We're still searching for her, an Amber Alert was sent out, we're currently going down the list of people she's talked to and had ties with," Evans said during the search.
Police had released information that Gantz was last seen wearing a black tank top and either black leggings or shorts, along with glasses. The department also noted at the time that she might have left the area with persons unrelated to her and might not have had required medication.
The alert for Gantz was removed Monday afternoon at approximately 4 p.m., about 38 hours after she was last seen.
