Madisonville Elementary School is currently holding their annual Scholastic book fair online. The event, which is typically held on-campus but was moved to a virtual setting due to the COVID-19 pandemic, began March 1 and will last until March 14.

Participants can access over six thousand titles, ranging from preschool to middle school selections, through a link online. Items will be shipped directly to the buyer’s home and orders over $25 will be shipped for free.

“There are two ways they can choose to shop,” said MES Librarian Liz Stover on the 2021 edition of the event. “You can shop through the virtual book fair, which is set up to where it really looks like you are in-person at the fair, or you can search for a title if you know what you are looking for.”

All proceeds from the fair, as always, will benefit MCISD libraries. Despite the absence of the traditional fair, Stover believes the virtual option comes with an added convenience factor.

“I am trying to stress to the students that there are benefits to this,” said Stover. “In the past, we had students with parents who worked and could not attend. This opens up a different avenue for them to shop with their children. I have been telling them that they can sit on their couch in their pajamas and take their time in the comfort of their own homes and shop.”

MES tied the book fair and its promotion into ‘Everybody Reads Day’, which took place Tuesday. This is also the birthday of famed children’s author and illustrator Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known by his pen name Dr. Seuss.

MES students celebrated the occasion by dressing up as their favorite Dr. Seuss characters during school Tuesday. Principal Dr. Rhodena Brooks participated by reading her favorite Dr. Seuss book to the students after morning announcements.
