The Madisonville Meteor, a county staple for more than 126 years, will return in 2021 under new ownership. Granite Publications of Taylor acquired the assets of the Meteor, effective Dec. 31, 2020, in a longterm, strategic plan designed to preserve and build upon the Meteor’s legacy, including a continued commitment to the community it serves.

Granite Publications too came under new leadership in 2017 and has remained strong since, even during this Pandemic, according to Daniel Philhower, Vice President of Operations and now leads Granite Publications and its 11 newspaper in Texas.

“I am honored to have Madisonville back under our management umbrella,” added Philhower. “Our team strives to provide quality local news/sports/entertainment to our readers, along with effective marketing tools and platforms for our advertisers. We strive to support every local community where we serve. Local people serving the local community.”

Serving the Madisonville community will be Publisher Jonathan Deeley. Deeley, an Army veteran and graduate of TCU, is no stranger to newspapers. He has owned and published the Coastal Current on South Padre Island and is currently the publisher of the Bandera Bulletin in Bandera County.

“The majority of existing businesses are still dealing with fallout from the current economic disruptions, as well as consumer health and safety concerns,” explained Deeley.

“With the combined talent of the Madisonville Meteor staff, I believe we are in a good position to ride out this storm as well as adapt to the new realities of the post-COVID business world and prepare for the challenges that come with it.”

Valeri Stair, accounting manager for Granite Publications, is heading the transition team and is currently in the Madisonville office to assist customers and answer questions or concerns readers may have.

Granite Publications was established over 40 years ago and believes their success is related to the experience and accomplishments of its employees. One Team, One Vision, One Goal.
