Two young children were flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital in downtown Houston after a three-vehicle crash on Wednesday, April 2 on Texas 21 West near the Exxon station in North Zulch.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Justin Ruiz said the crash happened at approximately 10:15 a.m. when a 2016 BMW passenger car was pulling out of the Exxon gas station.

"The BMW failed to yield the right of way to a 2017 Mitsubishi, striking the Mitsubishi on the passenger side, almost T-bone style," Ruiz said.

The impact caused the Mitsubishi to go into the westbound lanes where it was struck by a 2016 Toyota Highlander that was traveling westbound, according to Ruiz.

The Mitsubishi began to overturn after being hit by the Highlander.

Contrary to initial reports, DPS confirmed there were no ejections in the crash. However, a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old child were flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital downtown.

"There were no other injuries from the other vehicles. They were all checked and released on scene," Ruiz said.

While Ruiz did not confirm if citations had been issued at the scene, he indicated that failure to yield the right of way was a contributing factor to the crash.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
