Graveside services for Randy Mathis, 67, of Madisonville were held 2 P.M., Sunday, October 2, 2022 at Madisonville Cemetery, Madisonville, Texas. Bro. Dennis Ivey officiated the service.

Terry Randall “Randy” Mathis, Sr. was born October 29, 1954, in Huntsville, Texas to James & Evelyn “Jeanelle” (Harris) Mathis. He was raised in Madisonville where he resided his entire life. Randy retired as a prison guard from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He was a Trail Boss & Rodeo Chairman for the Madisonville Sidewalk Cattlemen’s Association and a lifelong member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Randy enjoyed hunting, football and baseball, as well as ranching with his father in his younger years. Randy was so proud of his children. Brandi remembers being his “secret weapon”, spotting coons when they’d go hunting. T and Will have countless memories of him talking cattle and horses as well as playing and coaching them in baseball over the years. They were his life’s work. His love for his grandchildren was unmatched. He loved watching Luke and Carter in whatever activity they were up to and no doubt, he would have done the same with Sadie. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of North Madison Church of Christ. Randy passed away September 29, 2022 at his home in Madisonville, Texas.

Randy was preceded in death by both of his parents and parents-in-law, Maxie and Melba Waller. Surviving family members include loving wife of forty-four years, Janie (Waller) Mathis of Madisonville; daughter, Brandi Mathis of College Station; sons, Terry R. Mathis, Jr. (Cydney) of Gonzales and Will Mathis (fiancé, Codi Ochoa) of Madisonville; grandchildren, Luke, Carter and Sadie; brother, James “Rick” Mathis (Betty) of Victoria; cousins, Glenda Shine, Glenn Shine, Barbara Corley and Kathy Gustavus, as well as numerous extended family and friends.
