On Friday, July 14, tragedy struck on Highway 90 as a driver's actions led to a head-on collision, resulting in one fatality and injuring three others, according to a press release sent by the Madisonville Police Department.

At approximately 6 p.m., the Madisonville Police Department received a report of a reckless driver traveling north on Hwy. 90 and entering the Madisonville City limits. As officers were en route to the scene, they received another distressing call regarding a head-on collision in the 1100 Block of Hwy 90.

Upon arrival, officers found two vehicles with severe front-end damage, indicating a significant impact. The investigation revealed that the reckless driver, operating a black 2008 Lexus, was responsible for the collision. Witness statements and initial evidence suggested that the Lexus had overtaken other vehicles unsafely, prompting the initial emergency call, per the release.

The other vehicle involved in the collision was a black 2020 Nissan Armada traveling south on Hwy. 90. As the two vehicles approached each other, the Lexus crossed into the southbound lane, striking the Nissan nearly head-on. The force of the impact caused the Lexus to spin and veer into the ditch on the west side of the roadway, facing south, according to the release.

The driver of the Lexus was identified as 31-year-old Rahamath Mohammed from Houston. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) assisted in notifying Mohammed's family of the devastating loss.

The Nissan carried three occupants, all of whom suffered injuries from the collision. Two adults were transported to medical facilities by ground ambulance, while a 7-year-old child required air ambulance transportation. As of now, their conditions remain unknown.
