The Guidry Rodeo Company was founded in 1992 by Vernon Guidry. Originally from Houma, Louisiana, Vernon now calls Madisonville his home.

Guidry breeds both horses and bulls. Inspired by California breeders of top named bulls in the industry like Oscar, Red Rock and others, Guidry created his ‘Born to Buck’ breeding program in the early 90’s with the goal of putting more good bucking stock into rodeo horses and bulls. Today, Guidry Rodeo Company is considered one of the most successful stock contractors in the business.

Guidry believes the key to breeding bucking horses is the mare. “The mare is responsible for 70-80 percent of the colt’s ability to buck,” says Guidry.

In the 2000 rodeo season, Guidry Rodeo Company provided bucking stock at many of the largest Pro Rodeo Cowboy Association rodeos and Professional Bull Riders events such as Denver, Colorado, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston, and the National Finals Rodeo.

“When our calves are born, we look for athleticism, structural soundness, with a general overall balance in mind.” Calves are scored on their disposition and the score is taken approximately three weeks after the calves are weaned.

In 2021, Guidry was hurt in a bull accident on his ranch which landed him in the hospital. After, Guidry poured his time and energy into his embryo- creating business.

Today, Guidry Land & Cattle are active in the embryo transplant function of reproduction. This program utilizes in-vitro fertilization. IVF is a reproductive technique that is used to improve genetics and breeding. The fertilizing of eggs occurs down outside of the cattle’s reproductive tract, and then the embryos are transferred into the recipient cow.

Taking advantage of this reproductive technology, Guidry can better select the genetics he desires and maximize the genetic resources the company is working with.

The success of Guidry Rodeo Company and Guidry Land & Cattle has shown the love and respect Vernon Guidry has for his animal athletes. When adding in his time-tested nutritional program, animal exercise, and the breeding of these animals, Vernon Guidry has crafted a plan for his business meant to remain steady for many years.
