1941-2023

Belva Jean Walker was born on August 16, 1941, in Madisonville, Texas to Donald Lee Baker and Opal Mae Thompson.

She made her long-awaited segue to glory on July 10, 2024, and today is in the presence of her Lord Jesus Christ.

To say that Belva Walker was loved by many is an inadequate expression to describe a woman who had such a passionate care and concern for those around her. She was a fixture in the Madisonville community for many years as she remained joyfully involved in the First Baptist Church and served people as a talented hairdresser and beautician for fifty-three years.

Belva operated her own hair salon and genuinely enjoyed cutting hair and making people look beautiful. She recognized great value in everyone and gave her best efforts in helping them.

It was no surprise that Belva had many friends since she was such a joy to be around. She had a big heart manifested in compassion, mercy, and stellar baked goods and desserts. Her natural gift for cooking and her collection of cookbooks resulted in a great benefit to others who were on the receiving end of her recipes.

Belva adored her family and this was evident in her attentiveness to her children and her husband of more than fifty years.

Servant and sacrifice characterized her life very well as she served those around her with such love and kindness. Belva had a very authentic and observable relationship with Jesus Christ and knew the importance of her own salvation as well as the salvation of others.

It was not uncommon for her to have a hymn in her heart throughout the day.

Belva was an instrument of God’s righteousness used by Him to reach into the lives of many. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

The funeral service for Mrs. Walker was held Wednesday, July 17, 2024, 10 a.m., at Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.

Burial followed in Park Cemetery. Pastor David Riley officiated the service.

Belva Walker was preceded in death by both parents, Donald and Opal Baker; husband, Vann Walker Jr.; two brothers, Donald Wayne and Tommy Baker; and sister, Margaret Thigpin.

Those left to cherish Belva’s memory are her two sons, Sean Walker of Willis, Texas and Shane Walker of Dallas, Texas; two brothers, Mike and Janice Baker and Terry and Cecilia Baker, both of Madisonville, Texas; three sisters, Eunice Sanders of Huntsville, Texas, Kay and Buzz Mcmahan of Madisonville, Texas, and Debbie and Bob Henke of New Braunfels, Texas, and one grandson, Cham Walker, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, extended family and loving friends.

The final arrangements for Belva Jean Walker were under the compassionate care and direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
