Horace Wallace “Sonny” Farris, 80 years, 6 months, and 3 days, of Madisonville, TX passed away on Friday, August 2, at The William R. Courtney Texas State Veteran’s Home in Temple, TX. Sonny’s life will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Day Funeral Home with the burial with full military honors to follow at Bethel Cemetery in Bedias, TX. The visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday; August 9, 2024, at Day Funeral Home. Bro. Lon McVeigh will officiate.

Sonny was born on January 29, 1944 in Corpus Christi, TX to George and Naomi Farris. He attended school in North Zulch and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged from The United States Army in 1969. During his service to his country, he received the Nuclear Deterrence Operations Service medal, the Vietnam Campaign medal, the Vietnam Service medal, the Marksmanship badge with the M-14, and two Overseas Service bars. Being trained as a heavy motor transport operator, upon Sonny’s discharge, he enjoyed a career as a tractor-trailer driver.

Sonny was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents who raised him, Frank and Barbara Turvey. He is survived by his children, Jennifer Mendez (Johnny), Laura Limon, and Keefer Farris; his grandchildren, Sonny Lee Farris (Courtney), Christian Farris, Russell Theiss (April), Sandra O’Hara (Joseph), Matthew Mendez (Jenna), Taylor Haws (R.J.), Edison Mendez, and Quincey Mendez; his great grandchildren, Wyatt Farris, Ricky Theiss, Levi Theiss, Amira Haws, Hunter Farris, and Amelia O’Hara; and his siblings, Bobby Farris (Emma), Brenda Keasbey (Jim), Daniel Farris, and Mike Farris; and numerous other family members.

Serving as pallbearers are Keffer, Russell, Sonny, Devlin, Wayne,and Tommy.
