Late innings surge gives Lady Stangs the win
The game looked bleak for the Madisonville Lady Mustangs heading into the fourth inning, but the tide turned in their favor as they reeled of 15 straight runs over the next four innings to come away with a 15-7 win over La Vega last Friday.
Down 7-0 the Lady Mustangs offense woke up. Grace Williamson got things going reaching on an error in the inning. Martia Tyler then singled to left driving in Williamson to cut the La Vega lead to 7-1.
In the fifth the Lady ‘Stangs wielded down the La Vega lead even more. Kydall Creighton got things started with a solo shot over center filed to make it a 7-2 game. Jadyn Hooten the doubled and back-to-back singles by Sidnie Smith and Grace Coleman brought home Hooten. Maegan Anderson then singled to drive in Smith to make it a 7-4 game.
Another pair of singles by Williamson and Tyler pulled the Lady Mustangs within one at 7-6 to close out the inning.
In the sixth Madisonville shifted things into overdrive. Three straight singles loaded the bases for the Lady Mustangs. Before Anderson grounded into a fielder’s choice, Smith and Brynlee Urbantke came around to give Madisonville the 8-7 lead. Williamson the doubled in Anderson pushing the lead to 9-7. Then it was a double a score and again a double a score, as the Lady Mustangs went all in. Once the smoke had cleared in the sixth Madisonville led 11-7.
The Lady Mustangs closed out the game in their half of the seventh with their final four runs. Smith stole home for run number 12. Coleman raced in for number 13, and Williamson accounted for number 14. Creighton’s double drove in Tyler to round out the Madisonville scoring closing out the game.
Madisonville collected 20 hits in the game with Martia Tyler having 20% of them going 4-for-5 and driving in four.
The Lady Mustangs improve to 11-12-1 on the season. They hosted Robinson on Tuesday night as the season draws to a close.
