RUBY MORDESSA NEALY

1952-2024

Ruby Mordessa Nealy, 72, passed away on December 1, 2024, at her home.

Ruby, better known as “Mordessa” and “Ruru,” was born on October 26, 1952, to John and Jessie Mitchell McAdams in Madisonville, Texas. She grew up in the High Prairie community where she accepted Christ at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. She attended other churches, and lastly became a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Madisonville.

Ruby attended school at Marion Anderson High in Madisonville until schools were integrated in December of 1970. Due to schools combining at mid-term, there were two valedictorians and two salutatorians that year.

She was the valedictorian of her class. After graduation, she attended college at Texas Women’s University, where she majored in Occupational Therapy.

Ruby loved family, always had a kind personality, and was always willing to help when she could.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Mitchell; brother, Charles “Buster” McAdams; and nephew, Alonzo Allen. She is survived by sisters, Carol Brooks and Sheila Byrd (Richard); brothers, Robert McAdams and Reginal Allen (Gina); nieces, Tabatha Burns, Sharanda Wilson (Emmitt), Destiny Allen, and Taylor Allen; nephews, Cedrick Brice (Brigitte), Derrick Manahan (Kerrie), Lance Byrd (Twanna), Jonathan Brooks (Shalaniece), Byron Byrd, and Anthony Allen; ten great-nephews; nine great-nieces; four great-great-nieces; one great-great-nephew; and a host of cousins and friends.

A homegoing service was held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Lakeview Missionary Baptist Church, Madisonville, Texas. Interment followed in High Prairie Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Cedrick Brice, Ka’Melo Brooks, Jonathan Brooks, Kelvin Brooks, Lance Byrd, Kaleb Brooks, Byron Byrd, Aiden Johnson. Honorary Pallbearers were Robert McAdams, Emmitt Wilson, Reginal Allen, David Mitchell, Richard Byrd, Jr., Frank Brooks, Jr.

Arrangements were under the direction of Madisonville Funeral Home, Madisonville, Texas.
